Riverside Renaissance, Inc.

Riverside Renaissance, Inc. (RRI) was founded in 1990 by several residents of Riverside Park. These residents wished to improve the quality of life in the neighborhood and determined that a 501(c)(3) vehicle would help accomplish their goals.

In the past 15 years, RRI and its volunteers partnered with a variety of agencies, including the Florida Department of Transportation, the State of Florida Division of Forestry, Broward County, the Broward Sheriff's Office, the City of Fort Lauderdale, local artists, and architects to promote and realize many of its goals.

Through the ARBORescue project with the FDOT, Division of Forestry, and local architects, over 300 hardwood trees and palms were planted throughout Riverside Park. This particular effort awarded Riverside Park the coveted Neighborhoods USA National Neighborhood of the Year award and a Proclamation issued by Broward County. In conjunction with BSO and a grant, 65 trees were planted on SW 18 Avenue. Broward Beautiful awarded two grants for entrance monument landscaping. Many trees and plants were donated to our neighborhood by nurseries being displaced due to road-widening in western Broward County. A major renovation of our park was accomplished through volunteer efforts, as well as entrance monuments, sidewalk installation and repair, swale recovery (to mitigate storm water runoff), and Stranahan High School perimeter beautification.

However, RRI is not just about aesthetic improvement of the neighborhood. For over a decade, funds were raised to provide a community service scholarship to a deserving graduate of Stranahan High School. Outreach initiatives to other neighborhoods is a prime focus of RRI; helping each neighborhood to achieve its best. A volunteer handbook was published to assist others in reaching their goals.
