The Riverside Park neighborhood in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, didn’t get its start until the 50’s when homes were being built to house the folks coming to Florida after WWII. However, the area had its real beginnings in the early 1900’s as a produce trading point on the New River. Our neighborhood Swing Bridge is dated from the 1920’s. Riverside Park is a family-friendly neighborhood in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, defined by the following borders: Broward Boulevard to the north, Davie Boulevard to the south, Interstate 95 to the west, and the north and south forks of the New River to the east.
The neighborhood is accessed from Broward Boulevard by SW 18th Avenue and SW 11th Avenue (Palm Avenue). SW 11th Ave actually takes you over the historic and scenic 11th Avenue Swing Bridge. From Davie Boulevard, entry is from SW 15th Avenue.
The community has two parks: Riverside Park by the Radford Center at 555 SW 11th Ave and Coontie-Hatchee at 1116 SW 15th Ave which is directly on the river. Both parks have playgrounds and picnic tables, and C-H Park also has an exercise trail and pavilions with water views.
Riverside Park is conveniently located near to Interstates 95 and 595, which connect directly to destinations north, south, east, and west, and is less than 5 minutes from the Tri-Rail mass transit train station. The neighborhood is 15 minutes from Fort Lauderdale/Hollywood International Airport and 15 minutes from Port Everglades, the cruise ship capital of the world.
The community is just five minutes from a vibrant downtown area. Downtown Fort Lauderdale features government offices and agencies, banking and commerce, the downtown library, a world class art museum, universities, Las Olas Boulevard and other shopping areas, the Riverwalk, Historic Himmarshee Village, and many other cultural, dining and entertainment options.
